Raising the level of surfing in the Indian Ocean starts with the people who train, judge and supervise athletes. The Joint Coaching Program connects the coaches and officials of our member federations.

Our objectives

• Share knowledge and best practices between coaches, judges and technical staff across the region
• Develop common physical and mental preparation methods
• Train judges and officials to international standards
• Support talent identification and athlete development in every member country

How it works

Technical workshops for coaches and officials take place during the Union’s events and exchange programmes, such as the Indian Ocean & Francophonie Surfing Cup. Sessions cover coaching, judging, ocean safety and event organisation, with the support of international experts.

Towards an Indian Ocean surf instructor certification

With its partners, the Union is working on a harmonised surf instructor training framework for the Indian Ocean region, with a view to international recognition. The goal is to create new career opportunities for young people in the region.
